The bronchi and bronchioles, which are the lungs' airways, are examined during a bronchoscopy surgery. The lungs receive air from the trachea through the airways. Your doctor will do the treatment by inserting a bronchoscope, a thin, flexible tube, down your throat and into your airways through your nose (or occasionally, your mouth). The bronchoscope can be inserted into your airways if you have a breathing tube. The bronchoscope contains a tiny, light camera that your doctor can use to see your airways and take images of them. During the surgery, you will be given medication to help you relax and fall asleep.
